Homer is the author and poet of The Odyssey, and the Iliad.
The Homeric Question[]
It is uncertain if Homer was the original writer, performer, or transcriber. Some question if he existed at all. Because his works were originally oral, it cannot be determined how much he contributed to the editions we have and study now. Other commonly agreed on facts include:
- Homer was not blind
- His work definately had distributed authorship
- Probably a legend, maybe created from a real core.
- "Homer" stands for the Oral Tradition Itself
Origin of name[]
- Hom = together
- Er = build, create
- Homer = together build/create
- current best guess
